Welcome to Waikiki, Hawaii
Waikiki is a beautiful neighborhood of Honolulu, Hawaii on the southern coast of the island of Oahu. This world-famous vacation destination is home to one of the most beloved beaches in the world, Waikiki Beach. In the 1800s, Hawaiian royalty sought retreat away from it all in Waikiki; two centuries later, you’ll find the same beautiful sites and relaxing beaches, with a dash of excitement. Honolulu is the largest city in Hawaii, full of excitement and culture, but the beachside Waikiki is a vacationer’s dream. The beach is the center of the vacation, with spectacular views, warm sand, and clear waters. When you feel like a break from the sun, enjoy world-class restaurants, casual beach fare, and endless boutique shopping. You’ll love Waikiki, and many people are content to spend a whole week just lapping up the sun on the shores. We suggest that you enjoy Waikiki but make sure to explore the rest of Oahu for the full Hawaiian experience. But truly, no matter whether you come here for an adventure exploring the island or for a week of relaxation, you’ll find what you need while staying in Waikiki. |
Getting to Waikiki
There are nearly two dozen airports scattered on the islands of Hawaii, and the largest of those Honolulu International Airport (HNL), just a hop, skip, and a jump from Waikiki. More Info |
When To Go To Waikiki
The absolute best times to visit Hawaii are during the spring and fall. The islands are least crowded from mid-April to mid-June and from September to early December. These also happen to be the times when the islands are experiencing the best weather! Luckily, Waikiki Beach is one of the best places in all of Hawaii for sunshine year-round.
The high-season in Hawaii is a bit of a misnomer, because it really means it’s when it’s low everywhere else! Americans head to the islands from mid-December through March to escape the winter chill of the mainland. A similar phenomenon occurs during the last week of April and early May, when Japanese travelers have a lot of holiday time and descend upon the island. Just be aware that if you come during either of these times that you’ll have to book early or risk paying top dollar for airfare. Summer months are not as busy as in the winter, but the islands are still pretty crowded due to the number of families that come during summer vacation. |
