Hiking in Waikiki, Hawaii

The island of Oahu is wonderfully varied in terrain, and home to hundreds of microclimates that make exploring the island a new adventure every time. While it is possible to explore the island on your own, if you’re heading into the forest or up the mountain, a guide or group tour will make your experience richer and easier.
A guide will be able to hook you up with the proper equipment, as well as be able to expound on local flora and fauna. The Hawaii Ecotourism Association can hook you up with a good guide to meet your specific needs and interests. Another great option is a tour offered by a nature conservation organization, such as the Nature Conservancy or the Sierra Club. These groups sponsor hikes as well as offer volunteer opportunities to commune with nature while clearing trails.
